With the new MLB season upon us in just a few weeks, there's no better time to review 2025 and talk about our 2026 ambitions. Well, actually, November may have been a better time and I've had this post lying here for about a month, but there is NOW no better time than NOW.
Below I will include post-season, season and running results (2024 + 2025), along with some thoughts going forward.
Lets start with the fun stuff.
Recorded on Action Network, a 10-11 post-season record worth (-1.83) units. However, if you read along here, not included in the tracking were Wild Card round and Divisional Round Round Robins where we hit three out of four and four out of four teams. Still, I'll keep to what was recorded on Action for the official numbers below.
While the value of the information provided throughout the articles is subjective, is far exceeds anything I can give readers in "picks". Many times, the information leads people to different conclusions than I and that's what's so wonderful about it.
Never the less, 2025 the most profitable year here (out of two years in total) for the picks:
And then the all-time record for the two years this site has been in operation:
Not terrible for someone who doesn't really consider themselves an "expert" sports bettor at a time where everyone's an expert.
And lastly, some cherry picked numbers since the end of July 2024 to make me feel good.
More importantly, I'm guessing everyone wants to hear about 2026 content.
Lets get the bad news out of the way first.
Although I'm extremely proud of the reader growth, nearly doubling season over season, revenue (donations) actually declined in 2025 vs 2024, while costs increased. Not only are more people reaching for the pie (table capture even has a subscription cost now), everyone seems to be raising prices in this economic environment.
Meanwhile, the last donation came in during the All-Star break.
As a result, FreelanceBaseball.com operated at a loss last year.
This is not me asking for donations, just stating facts. It costs money to run this website. More last year than the year before and more this year than last.
For that reason and due to time constraints (I seem to have less of it free every year), I am unsure if I am going to renew the web hosting (due 3/14).
I am leaning towards doing so (maybe 65/35). However, I will not be writing up every game each day. It's just too much and I can't justify the time consumption for something I'm actually losing money on. While much of it is down for my own benefit as well as readers, writing up and posting everything takes a couple of extra hours per day.
Enough of the depressing stuff. Let's get to the good news.
I fully intend on providing MLB content in 2026. Whether that be here, via a substack (don't worry, if I have to eventually charge something to cover costs, it will be an extremely, ridiculously reasonable amount) or someplace else.
I may have something up my sleeve. Keep your eyes here and at @FreelanceBBall both on Twitter (I refuse to call it by any other name) and BlueSky (bsky) for any upcoming announcements about my future. See you all soon.
